Another Year, Another AGM

Protect Our Wild Animals has today been informed that, following incidents at a meet in February and complaints to the police, the Huntsman of the Cotswold Vale Farmers Foxhounds has pleaded guilty to racially abusing a hunt sab, fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 compensation to his victim. As Morgan's offence was, apparently, fully captured on video, a guilty plea was probably wise. He becomes the 296th individual connected with an organised Hunt in the UK who POWA records show as having received a criminal conviction or caution in the last 20 years, and the 39th official Huntsman to receive such legal sanctions.

POWA Person says:- Sabs have made numerous reports, and complaints to police, of assaults by servants and/or supporters of this Hunt. I believe the racial abuse incident was at the same meet, on 26-2-11, when they made allegations of a mob-handed and prolonged attack on several sabs, resulting in some injuries, and which they claimed was both instigated, and participated in, by Mr. Morgan. Since then, in March police arrived in force at the Hunt's behest, arrrested several sabs for, the activists say, no good reason and then red-facedly had to drop the charges. In October a CVFFH hound was killed by a lorry when the pack ran out on to an A road, with hunters and sabs blaming one another. A week later, monitors filmed the Hunt all over another road for several minutes, causing traffic chaos. Pictured right, A CVFFH hunter berates sabs in that calm and polite way they have. On the 20th August Hunt Saboteurs from around the country gathered in London for our Annual General Meeting. This is of course a legal requirement for the organisation, where the usual business of presenting accounts, committee reports and the stand down and re-election of committee positions takes place. It was also the time to discuss the coming seasons activities, tactics being used, pass on news and to watch some videos of past seasons activities. The organisation is going from strength to strength as proven by an over view of our accounts and assets. In just four years we have doubled our assets and quadrupled the money given out as grants to groups.

The day was, as always, a time to meet old friends from years back and to make new ones and was followed by a well attended benefit gig. Although the head-line act of Conflict had dropped out a week before the other bands Liberty, Disrupters, Virus, The Sporadics all played. Conflict had supplied a large amount of merchandise free to the HSA so all profits went to the organisation. the purpose of the benefit is to cover all costs of the AGM thereby stopping it being a drain on our resources and, thanks to the thirsty gig-goers, we not only achieved that goal but made a healthy profit. All those running the event and the bands themselves received no payment for the day; so a big thank you to everyone who worked hard to make the whole day a success.

The HSA was started in 1963 and so is coming up to it's fiftieth birthday. We know of no other non-violent direct action organisation which has such longevity and consistency, a testament to all those over the years who have worked to keep the organisation going and hunt sabs in the field saving lives. We would of course love to disband once hunting is truly dead and gone, but that is the hands of the politicians. They need to follow the will of the vast majority of the population and strengthen the Hunting Act, to an extent where just riding out with thirty odd dogs is illegal. Until the day that our wildlife is safe from the countryside vandals this organisation will continue to put sabs in the field and saves lives.

Violence escalates as pro-hunt lobby attack protestors (again)

The Hunt Saboteurs Association has made available pictures of the hunt saboteur taken to Chichester hospital with head injuries after he was attacked at a meet of the Chiddingfold, Leconfield & Cowdray Hunt yesterday. The still grab from a video shows the saboteur with blood across his face.

Sussex police were called to the incident in which the protestor was attacked by 2 men at Bignor Park, Sussex and have visited the home of a suspect. The protestor was later released from hospital.

On Monday at the neighbouring Crawley & Horsham Hunt a 16 year old boy was attacked and beaten up in a similar incident. He was then issued threats including "We're fed up of talking. You're all gonna be f***ing dead and buried."
