HSA news release 3rd March 1998
Foxes are not the only victims
The HSA makes no apology for publishing the following photographs taken on
1st March 98 at the kennels of the Cambridgeshire Foxhounds, Caxton,
Cambs.
The photographs were taken by local people who took advantage of the fact
that the entire hunt staff had gone to London to take part in the
'Countryside March'! The locals, along with the majority of the public, want
to see an end to hunting with dogs and have seen through the glossy,
sanitised image put out by the multi million pound publicity machine that
has been set up to defend bloodsports.
They have to suffer the appalling stench and pollution coming from hunt
kennels as diseased and decaying flesh is sorted for feeding the hounds, and
know only too well the fate of the hounds that no longer make the grade for
the hunt - this is the side of hunting that is never discussed.
Unfortunately for the animals involved, and the people who seek to expose
it, this side does not offer the exciting imagery the media continually
crave and does not fit in with the standardised arguments they allow on
hunting.
We hope by printing the photographs here, that the hunters can no longer
sweep this side of hunting under the carpet, and that they are made to
answer for the suffering and death their entertainment is responsible
for.
We can only wonder at the callousness of the huntsmen who on the one day
shoot and discard the carcasses of their hounds amongst the flesh in a feed
bin, and the next don their red coats and make the journey to London to
defend their 'sport'.
A major national newspaper almost had the guts to run the pictures this
week, having confirmed that the photographs were genuine, but pulled out
mainly because they were deemed too gruesome for the readership. The
Cambridgeshire hunt initially denied they ever kill their hounds. Ever! They
then backtracked and said the photos were faked, then they admitted they had
shot the hounds but it their excuse was because they were injured.
We've heard it all before, and unfortunately until this Government have the
balls to do what they were elected to do, we may have to go on hearing it.
You could have an effect though, and if you are able, get in touch with one
of our local groups (see elsewhere on this site), get out there and stop
them hunting NOW!
The pictures are here.
